Location and gardens were superb

Location, location, location. We stayed two nights and were lucky enough to have a sunny, clear spring day with the flowers in full bloom and Mt. Fuji on full display. What a beautiful site and such a well maintained garden. Hotel staff went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable.

Room was a bit tired.

Beautiful grounds, excellent location next to the lake and helpful and precise staff. Huge room, comfortable and they have a shuttle service from Motohakone, which is very helpful.

Rooms are a bit outdated, they could do with some refurbishing.

What was the highlight of Odakyu Hotel de Yama

Hotel de Yama – on a clear day you can see Mount Fuji.

The 2 restaurants serve delicious food - we stayed here on a half board basis, having our evening meal twice in the French Restaurant and once in the Japanese restaurant. We had to select which restaurant and at what time we would like to eat at the time of booking. We asked for 7pm the first night but were allocated 645pm - so I think this may be the last sitting (certainly last orders for those dining a la carte were 730pm). As we had booked dinner bed and breakfast we were given a set menu ( different each night). I have a food allergy and was disconcerted twice when waiters in each restaurant went through a description of our typed out menu with us - in one case pointing out an extra we could opt for - without referring to the mushrooms looming large on said menus! This was despite my having contacted the hotel in advance (and my Japanese friends having done so as well) and my reminding the people seating us each evening about my allergy! Each time, when the waiter checked with the kitchen, all was ok - but I will never know if this would have been the case if I had not raised this yet again. The food was delicious - but I had that stressed feeling of "will I be ill later"... The rooms were comfortable with fridge, 2 chairs, table, as well as double bed. Our room on the 2nd floor (same level as the entrance and reception) also had a balcony. The onsens are on 2nd ( for men) and 3rd ( for women) floors and each have indoor and outdoor areas. There is a laundry room with 2 washing machines for guests to use. There is a hotel minibus until 510pm to and from MotoHakone Port ( by request after 510pm) where the pirate boats go from across Lake Ashi. On a clear day one can see Mount Fuji from the hotel - on our last morning we glimpsed it from the hotel's observatory on the top floor! The other days the clouds were too low, and the weather too wet, to see anything!

It was a lovely hotel with lots of staff - a really beautiful place - but what it lacked was any sense of getting a connection with staff over the 3 days we were there, simply due to its size. The Yamaha Disklavier self playing grand piano had wonderful tone – the keys of the piano moved and the strings of the piano were hit automatically – but it would have been even nicer to have occasionally had a real pianist as well.

Exceptional Hospitality and Stunning Gardens, but Breakfast Could Be More Inclusive!

What a hotel! The location, the property itself, and above all, the staff deserve the highest praise. My arrival was less than ideal-I got lost in the pouring rain after getting off the bus at Motohakone, and with my phone out of data, I ended up walking in the wrong direction. Thankfully, the staff at a nearby Hakone hotel were incredibly kind; they invited me inside and called Hotel de Yama on my behalf. Within ten minutes, a minibus arrived with a wonderful driver who whisked me safely to my destination. I stayed three nights and thoroughly enjoyed every moment. The hotel’s beautiful garden, with its lush paths and seasonal blooms, was a highlight I returned to again and again. The lounge provided a peaceful retreat, and the hospitality from every staff member was outstanding-professional, warm, and always ready to help. The rooms were very spacious and comfortable, with a lovely view of Lake Ashi and not to forget the amazing views of Mount Fuji from the garden. I can’t recommend Odakyu Hotel de Yama enough for anyone seeking a serene, luxurious escape in Hakone. It’s the kind of place where you feel genuinely looked after, from the moment you arrive to the moment you leave.

While I thoroughly enjoyed my stay overall, I feel the hotel could do better in accommodating guests with specific dietary requirements, especially at breakfast. On my first morning, I opted for the Japanese breakfast, which was excellent-as a Muslim, I appreciated that the meal consisted mainly of fish, eggs, and vegetables, all of which were suitable for my dietary needs. On the second morning, I decided to try the French Breakfast. The menu, included in the room rate, listed bacon and sausages with every dish. I informed the staff that I do not eat pork and would only like the scrambled eggs and bread. To my disappointment, I was served just a small bread roll, a croissant, and a tiny portion of scrambled eggs-exactly as listed on the menu, with no additional portions to compensate for the missing meat. I found it disappointing that, as a non-meat eater, I received a much smaller and less satisfying breakfast than other guests. It would have been thoughtful if the staff could have offered extra eggs or bread to ensure I had a filling meal, especially since breakfast was included in my stay. There are so many other vegetarian options that could easily be added to the menu, and I hope the hotel will consider this for future guests with dietary restrictions. Overall, while the service in other areas was excellent, the breakfast experience for those with special dietary needs could be improved to match the high standards set elsewhere in the hotel.

Beautiful, calm, elegant, serene.

Beautiful grounds with a large garden. Hotel was tastefully decorated. Rooms were spacious with good views of the Lake and Mt. Fuji on a clear day. Lovely onsen and wonderful American breakfast. The hotel even has a private jetty and an observation deck. The lounge bar has a lovely atmosphere.

Wished there was a gym, but otherwise the facilities were amazing.

Very Good

Stone's throw away from Odori Park. There are two Konbinis nearby. The rooms are quite spacious and the Staff is very kind. The best thing for me was that the A/C was built into the windowsill, ensuring that no air gets blown into my face at night.

Parking is not free. It costs 2'000 Yen per Day. The hotel is quite old, but atleast clean and no weird smell. Not the cheapest Hotel either. I visited Sapporo in Mid-April, which is not really the best time to visit Sapporo. Would've expected it to be a tad cheaper. Need to walk around 8 Minutes to get to Odori Station. From there, I need to transfer to Sapporo Station or Shin-Sapporo Station to get to the airport.

Relaxing resort hotel.

Beautiful lake location. Staff at front desk speaks English and is super helpful in arranging taxi tour, and spend 20min to help with our English app to reserve Shinkansen train. Onsen inside hotel, with amenities like massage chair in well equipped makeup room.

Very Good

Very nice location directly on the lake and only a short walk to the center with restaurants and public transport. We could see Mt. Fuji from our room. The room was spacious. Even though the hotel is already quite old, it kept its flair and maintenance is well done.

Breakfast is not worth the money. We were in the Western restaurant and there is only very little variation to chose from. The sides to the egg were very disappointing.

The onsen was outstanding, as was the view from our room. We were lucky enough to see Mt. Fuji two days of our stay.

It's not the most walkable location, though it's not terrible.

A cozy old European style hotel that I would wish to come back again with my family.

Very good first impression via email communication before arriving. Wonderful view with autumn leaves, and impressive dinner and breakfast (highly recommended). Onsen was great too. 5-min walk to Hakone Shrine

Superb location. Very formal staff which was as expected and marketed. Food presentation excellent. Hotel shuttle picked me up from the port even after usual business hours after a call with reception. Excellent communication before my arrival in regards to restaurant choices, shuttle and luggage transport. Has a very Old Classy Hotel vibe and since it was not crowded at the time of my stay, it felt mildly surreal and very elegant. Garden is fantastic and good weather can mean view of Fuji (but not from every room). Thank you for your hospitality!

Indeed the hotel rooms and hallways can be described as dusty, most of all due to the age of it (not due to lack of care from staff I believe). I expected this so I was not bothered, but to be taken into account.

Wonderful

Huge room, great little onsen, view of the lakes and mount fuji (from the garden) were out of this world. Really felt special to spend a couple of days here. Highly recommend the Japanese bfast over the french one. Staff were super friendly, they sent a shuttle to pick me up at the port way after their standard latest pick up time, so i didnt have to walk in the dark.

Not so much of a dislike but a heads up: most restaurants around the port close early so just plan accordingly. It also takes about 1h by bus to rewach Hakone-Yamoto

A classic lakeside hotel on a large scale, with great views and facilities, that doesn't disappoint.

This is a little old school in a nice way, the building has quite a bit of history, but is fantastic, an amazing place to stay for two or 3 nights right on the lake. The service was exceptionally good and the room size represented the largest we stayed in for a 2 week trip to Japan. There are 2 restaurants a French one and a Japanese one. We ate at the French one which was exceptionally good with fantastic service. Check out time is also 12 noon, which can be useful.

This is not the fault of the hotel, but just be aware that you need to get either a busy local bus from Odwara or an expensive cab. Once you reach the port the hotel has a very efficient pick up service.

Gorgeous hotel with a relaxing onsen and great food options

This is a lovely hotel with amazing staff, exquisite dining, and a great onsen for relaxing. It was the perfect location for seeing the nearby shrine and doing the Hakone loop. The view is beautiful, despite me not getting to see the flowers in all their glory.

I would have liked a more obvious way to get to the hotel for people carrying a lot. I assume there were shuttles, but I just walked with my luggage and it was a bit of a trek. It's a cool walk though.
